THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO DEFEATING SCHOOL STRESS

2020 was a disaster in terms of mental health for students and 2021 hasn't been any better. You'd think that by now we should have been used to the stress of online learning and the excessive pressure that teachers put on us, but honestly it just never seems to get better. Here’s my simple guide to help you deal with school stress and survive school.

This is you right now.

You, after using my helpful tips.

#1 Don't panic about tests and exams.

The worst part of online school is probably the constant assignments and tests, not to mention the looming threat of exams. It's natural to feel scared and worry about your grades, but it's best to stay calm and revise effectively. If you need any further help, don't be afraid to ask your teachers. Watch YouTube videos on the subject and practice past papers. Just remember, though your grades don't define you, they are important.

#2 Don't let loneliness get to you.

Quarantine has probably changed most people's social lives forever, for better or for worse. As a result, your friends probably don't talk to you as much, thus worsening your stress. This is why you need other things to do to act as outlets for your pent up emotions, such as hobbies and online clubs. Take this opportunity to fill your life with activities such as painting, writing, dancing, you might as well make yourself the ‘main character! ’

#3 Deal with difficult teachers without riling them up.

Teachers can be a nightmare to deal with during online school, giving you an inhumane number of tasks to complete, but try to see this from their point of view. They are attempting to adjust to online learning which has been hard for them too. Try to talk to your teachers respectfully about the workload they set and hopefully they take your concerns into consideration. However if the workload really is unbearable then you should resort to higher authorities. Never let the stress get to you!

#4 All work and no play makes Jack a stressed boy

Studying is important, but your health should be your top priority. Always take breaks in between your study sessions and actually try to actually have fun. Just do what you enjoy, binge on an anime or bake cookies. Overworking is bad news for your mental health and your performance at school.

#5 Get actual fresh air and some exercise.

Being cooped up in your room is healthy for no one, especially students. Try to go out sometimes (with a mask and while following safety precautions) and exercise. Exercise is a great stress-reliever and helps increase endorphins, which make you feel less stressed and healthier overall. It’s definitely a win-win situation!

#6 If it's extremely serious, you really need to see a therapist.

Listen, my ‘ultimate guide’ may be helpful to an extent, but if this stress is chronic and debilitating, please contact a therapist as soon as possible. What works for me may not necessarily work for you. Your mental wellbeing is precious and you need to protect it.

I hope my ‘ultimate guide’ was of some help to you. I’ve got your back
